Your expert guide to discovering the Northern Territory

Outback wrangler

Matt Wright has lived and worked in Darwin for over 20 years. He has developed some of the most extraordinary and memorable outback experiences in Australia that showcase what the Northern Territory has to offer.

Which region/cities in the NT do you think all travellers must visit once, and why?

The Tiwi Islands are beautiful and they’re not what you’d expect the territory to be, but

I’d also say Kakadu and Litchfield National Park and Kings Canyon.

What are the dishes that all gourmands must try while visiting the Northern Territory?

Definitely try the fresh mud crab and Barra caught fresh (which you can catch by yourself).

I also love a local steak at The Cav (The Cavenagh Hotel)

Which are your favourite restaurants/eateries in The Northern Territory?

Peewee’s At The Point is fantastic with local cuisine located right on the water. Obviously I love The Cav (The Cavenagh Hotel) for a great steak, but you could also try out the T-Bone steak at Sandpalms Roadhouse Tropical Motel. I also love the brekky at The Trade Bar.

Aside from trying the food, what should visitors make sure they do in The Northern Territory?

Get out and explore the countryside – there’s a lot of hidden gems around the Northern Territory so make sure you do your research. There are so many experiences you can’t do anywhere else, so be sure to book into a tour or activity while you’re in town.

What makes The Northern Territory a must-visit destination?

The diversity around Darwin and the countryside is so vast – where you can go from the tropical Tiwi Islands to the flood plains to outback Kakadu.

Also, our wildlife and fishing is like nowhere else!
