And it's booking out fast.
The Byron Bay hinterland looks set top local food lover’s lust lists yet again, thanks to its latest addition, farm-to-table eatery Frida’s Field.
The farm-to-table eatery – named after the family’s dearly departed pet pig – is set on working farm nestled in the picturesque town of Nashua in the Byron Hinterland, not far from Bangalow.

Frida’s Field – which opened for bookings just last week, is a joint project between the Rawlings family and Icebergs group alum Daniel Medcalf, aimed at bringing the focus to sustainable living and regenerative farming techniques.

“Our whole reason for being is to show that growing food can be done in a way that actively reverses climate change,” explains Jeanie Rawlings. “The realisation that the way in which food is grown can have such a huge impact on climate change is the driving force behind this project.”

The menu promises a celebration of plentiful Northern Rivers fresh produce. In fact, many of the key ingredients are grown sustainably on site, including a 50-strong herd of Wagyu-Angus beef cattle, raised in the nearby Bangalow fields, as well as veggies picked ripe from the gardens and orchards that flank the property.
Daniel Medcalf – formerly of Surry Hills’ icon The Dolphin and Canguu institution The Slow –– will head up the kitchen, bringing the signature “simple, in season and tasty,” approach back to his home town.

“It’s a no-brainer for me really,” he said. “Their [Jeanie and Edward’s] philosophy on farming and food couldn’t be more where I want to be.”
Like everything else at the unique Nashua eatery, dining is a little different. Long lunches and Friday night dinners are hosted in the barn, embracing the quintessential community vibe for which Byron Bay is famous. Expect a less structured approach that favours lengthy communal tables and share plates heaped high over traditional restaurant dining.

While initially launching with a bi-monthly long lunch offering, the eatery’s first dates have already sold out. Frida’s Field lunches will now be held weekly on Saturdays from 12.30pm with tickets available to purchase online.
