Rest like a captain at the Ship Inn, Stanley.
Tasmania has no shortage of swoon-worthy stays dappled across its picturesque landscape, but a new opening inside an 1849 structure may just be a contender for its most chic accommodation yet.

Ship Inn Stanley is housed inside a historic building, that’s experienced a sophisticated and cosy refurbishment.

A destination for those seeking a taste of the slower-paced life, Ship Inn is nestled in the coastal town of Stanley, on Tasmania’s North West Coast – amid art galleries, eateries, antique stores, vineyards and naturally beautiful scenery.

A four-and-a-half-hour drive from Hobart, and two-and-a-half from Launceston, the remote destination draws in guests with the prospect of a tranquil stay.

Having traded as a pub for 150 years, the inn closed in 1972 and fell into disrepair. Now, local owners Kerry and Alastair Houston have breathed new life into the property – and design lovers are bound to get excited over its new look.

The boutique hotel is now home to seven luxurious suites that each tell a story of the local township’s history. Historical artefacts, maritime antiques, original artworks, rich linens, plush bedding and dapper kitchen and bathroom facilities give each suite a stylish hand comfortable air.

Although the wild landscape beyond might beckon some to go exploring, a curated selection of books encourages guests to linger longer in the lobby and a boutique yoga studio and gym lures you in further.

If you can pull yourself away from this cosy beacon, discover the township’s history on a Stanley Heritage Walk, try your hand at hiking local landmark The Nut, and await the arrival of penguins on the shores after dark.
