Delicious drops, fine dining and luxury glamping pavilions are nestled among the gum trees in this unassuming part of Queensland.
When we think of Queensland wine regions, thoughts of the state’s Granite Belt might be the first to come to mind. But, less than forty minutes from the centre of Brisbane (and less than an hour from the Gold Coast), a flourishing winery offers an unlikely place to relax in quiet tranquility among the wildlife of unassuming Mt Cotton.

At Sirromet Wines, a hidden retreat offers sophisticated accommodation to those who’ve come to sample wines at the Cellar Door, look out over the rolling green hillside from the Tuscan Terrace and dine at Restaurant Lurleen’s.
Now, at Sanctuary by Sirromet, visitors can now linger longer by booking a luxury safari-style pavilion on site to while away an evening.

Here, guests wake up to the sounds of magpies singing, and the sight of wallabies hopping at the lake’s edge. Sirromet, it seems, is at harmony with the local wildlife – and it’s common to spot families of wallabies hopping around the vineyards. And yet, this is a far cry from camping.

Each luxury pavilion is fitted out with contemporary and comfortable furnishings, private bathrooms and air conditioning. Balconies provide an idyllic spot to spend an afternoon, with Sirromet wine in hand. Picnic blankets and wines by the bottle are available in your pavilion too, so guests can picnic among the green landscape. There are also family pavilions and a children’s playground on the grounds, for those travelling with younger family members.

Come dinnertime, wander up (or catch a buggy) to Restaurant Lurleen’s for a five- or eight-course degustation with paired wines. Here, Chef Matt Fulford serves up an inspired, and flavoursome menu – featuring native ingredients, local produce and creative touches. Artfully adorned dishes transport diners to the world’s finest wine regions – and, for a moment, you’ll forget Brisbane is only a short distance away. The service, too, is impeccable.

A highlight dessert is a life-like Williams pear that reveals a creamy middle, filled with sharp yuzu, dressed in schnapps, which rests on a crispy ginger biscuit and is finished with cranberry hibiscus leaves.
Then, following a night of quality rest among the gum trees, a hearty breakfast (think corn fritters, smoked salmon and rye bread) is served at the Cellar Door alongside reviving coffee.
