Melbourne's Lygon Street just got a chic new boutique hotel

And the owners consulted a fueng shui master to ensure the flow of energy would help guests sleep well.

It’s no secret that a generous portion of pasta can set you into a sleepy state, and now those feasting at Lygon Street’s famed Italian eateries can rest easy a Zagame’s House Boutique Hotel.

The newly opened 97-room hotel from the Zagame Group is bringing a dose of design-driven accommodation to Carlton. Once the site of the Downtowner Hotel, Zagame’s House is the result of an 18-million-dollar refurbishment.

A master of fueng shui, Edgar Lok Tin Yung, was consulted to ensure the flow of qi throughout the hotel was primed for sound sleep and relaxation.

No details have been overlooked at this harmonised hotel. Australian fashion label Robbandlulu have designed the staff’s uniforms, amenities have been supplied by UK’s Cowshed and the mini bar includes Mansfield Coffee Merchant’s coffee, alongside Everleigh Bottling Co. cocktails.

Inside, a neighbourhood wine shop and bar, ‘Lord Lygon’, a private event space, and a coffeehouse and kitchen, ‘Lobby 1851′, will keep travellers’ spirits (and sugars) high.

Chef Chris Bonello is at the helm of the tapas and drinks menus at Lord Lygon, which is champion local farmers, distillers and producers. Meanwhile, Lobby 1851 features an a la carte breakfast menu served at long communal tables.
And, late-night toasties are available via the hotel’s 24-hour room service.
