Home to outstanding edible offerings and the much adored annual Dark Mofo Festival, Hobart continues to be one of the country’s favourite holiday destinations. Amongst the city’s hotel options is the Henry Jones Art Hotel, which is no doubt soon set to be Hobart’s most popular thanks to a recent revamp. 15 years after first opening its doors the hotel has reopened after a $1.7 million renovation. Over the past two years the petite accommodation option has upgraded its 52 rooms and two suites, as well as its two restaurants, with new carpet, plaster and paint, windows and shutters, lighting, tiling, giant TVs, super king beds, gas fireplaces, and more. But Henry Jones isn’t just a hotel, but an art gallery, home to more than 400 artworks by Tasmanian artists. The building itself sits next to the Tasmanian School of Art and with a full-time Art Liaison Emine Lewis, the hotel will now further support the local arts community by offering an Art Prize valued at $20,000 for artists starting their career in the industry. “You might say The Henry Jones has been our blueprint for success, ” says Federal Group Tourism general manager Matt Casey. “It has a way of intimately connecting our guests to Tasmanian culture in an immersive and very personal way, which is now a central component of the magic that defines the Federal Group Tourism properties that have emerged since the launch of The Henry Jones. We’re over-the-moon about the next iteration of The Henry Jones. We’ve been staggered by the success of our new restaurants and very excited about the hotel refurbishment.”
