The most famous and far from the easiest, this 65-kilometre trail is a five to ten-day alpine journey (depending on your speed and fitness) from Ronny Creek to Lake St Clair. You pass Tasmania’s highest mountain, Mt Ossa, and can spot Bennett’s wallabies and wombats along the way. If you’re very lucky, you can sight Tasmanian devils and platypuses too. It’s a serious undertaking, so it’s recommended to go with a group. Check Tasmania’s Parks & Wildlife Service website for guidance on how to walk it safely.
