5 ways to find the best flight deals

A Webject insider reveals how to nab those travel bargains.

Whether you prefer short distance trips around the nation, or long-haul further afield, there are plenty of bargains to be had when it comes to organising your transport. Webjet Country Manager David Galt reveals that there are 5 easy ways to bag a bargain when it comes to flights

1. Break up your long-haul
Consider breaking up a long-haul flight into separate one-way fares rather than one long booking. “If you’re flying from Sydney to Europe, booking a one-way fare from Sydney to Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong or Singapore and then another one way to the end destination, may work out significantly cheaper, particularly if choosing local budget airlines.

For example, low-cost carrier Scoot Airlines now flies from Singapore to Athens, which travellers could add to another cheap flight from Sydney to Singapore where a range of low cost carriers are available,” he says.

2. Be flexible
Try to avoid peak season when it comes to departure and arrival dates and times. “It’s also worthwhile enjoying a night’s stay in another city along the way. In any case we recommend leaving plenty of time for unexpected airport delays and cancellations,” he continues.

“Being flexible will pay off,” says Galt, “There’s no specific day of the week set in stone that have cheaper flights, but we typically find that international fares are cheaper midweek than from Friday to Monday.”

3. Fly outside of peak hour
Avoid pre- and post-work flights in equal measure. “Timing is also important, often a domestic flight is going to be cheaper on a Monday afternoon than a Sunday evening”.

4. Don’t be afraid to fly budget
Don’t disregard budget airlines, as those are often where you will find the best deals. Most offer competitive lower prices and regular flash sale deals. airlines that will that offer lower prices and regular flash sale deals.

5. Do your research
Use sites like Webjet to compare and contrast different flight costings between full service airlines and low-cost carriers. It may take a little longer to investigate but it could be saving you a few dollars. “There is no one-size-fits-all secret to getting a great deal, but by applying these small tips, it can guarantee bookers are getting the best rate possible on their chosen routes,” says Galt.
