Here's where Rwandan wilderness meets luxury accommodation.
If getting up-close (but not too close) to gorillas in their natural habitat has long been on your travel bucket list, the opening of One&Only’s ultra-luxury ‘Gorilla’s Nest’ accommodation in Rwanda might just be your call to nature. Having officially opened its doors in November, the wilderness escape is now welcoming in nature lovers from around the world.

Set in the foothills of the Virunga volcano range, One&Only Gorilla’s Nest brings a taste of luxury to Kinigi in Rwanda’s northwest. Five minutes away, in Volcanoes National Park, resides the highest number of mountain gorillas.

A chic design exhibits local African artworks, while 21 individual structures blend seamlessly into the landscape. Ten Forest King Lodges, four Two-Bedroom Forest Lodges, five Virunga Suites and one Ingagi and Silverback Suite are all designed to frame the natural backdrop. Guests can enjoy the tranquility of their stay with private decks, outdoor bathtubs and in-room fireplaces.

Daily meals are served in the resort’s main restuarant, ‘Nest’, which offers indoor, outdoor and private dining spaces. Executive Chef Bryan English prepares local and organic ingredients from neighbouring farms and his own chef’s garden – and, new menus will appear daily. Guests can also enjoy private barbecues, picnics and lighter meals by the pool bar.

In keeping with the One&Only style, luxury, holistic spa will be on site, where plant-based, African ingredients will be incorporated into treatments.

With full access to a range of activities, guest can enjoy tailor-made experiences – from yoga to basket weaving, to coffee tasting, history lessons and traditional dancing. And, choose to drive through rolling hills from the airport, or take a 25-minute scenic helicopter flight to the resort’s private heli-pad.
