Eco tourism isn't all about roughing it – this luxurious island resort is as sustainable as they come.
If the idea of getting your hands dirty in the name of eco-tourism doesn’t appeal to your tastes in holiday style, there’s a luxurious yet sustainable resort that’s about to become a little less secret on the Ananbas Archipelago.
Private eco resort, Bawah Reserve has opened with support of the Bawah Ananbas Foundation (BAF), established to conserve and foster the biodiversity of the Anambas Islands and the marine life surrounding them.

You won’t stumble across this resort: it’s around 260 kilometres North-East of Singapore, within the Coral Triangle – an area thought to be up to ten times more diverse than the Great Barrier Reef.
Bawah Reserve is an ‘ecologically sound’ place to visit, comprising six islands, three lagoons and thirteen beaches, where guests are immersed among the natural beauty of the unspoiled destination.

But, there’s more to this lodge than its unwavering ethos. The accommodation and food offerings are tempting alone. The overwater bungalows are particularly worthy of design-savvy travellers’ attention.

Romantic holidayers can enjoy sunsets from the treetops restaurant, where a refined menu is plated up each day.

The Grouper Beach Bar is ideal for a spot of poolside socialising, cocktail in hand, while the Jules Verne Bar is set high above the leafy canopy – offering a wildlife-spotting location and delicious beverages.

Last, but by no means least, there’s The Boat House, the reserve’s relaxed beach bar. Here, lunch and dinner are served up alongside chilled drinks and equally chilled vibes.
