Where do Brad Pitt, Penelope Cruz and Harrison Ford go for a holiday?

The answer is wherever they please, of course.

There are a few destinations that these, and other big-name celebrities, tend to favour when they’re planning a break – away from flashing cameras and paparazzi.

One of the most secluded and exclusive islands in the Caribbean, Anguilla has been a haven for the who’s who for decades. Pitt, Cruz and Ford are regulars here, often checking in to a beach villa at the applauded Cap Juluca resort and only emerging for sunset cruises and spa treatments.

Established almost 30 years ago, the luxe resort on crescent-shaped Maundays Bay Beach has never cut corners when it comes to serious service: in fact, those staying in pool villas have enjoyed a staff-to-guest ratio of 4:1.

The property’s new owners, Belmond, have no intention of dropping standards. In fact, the hospitality group is planning a major makeover at the end of the year that will see the addition of 25 new beachfront villas, taking room capacity to 121.

Known for its upscale train and cruise offerings, Belmond’s hotel portfolio spans five continents, from the Governor’s Residence in Yangon, Myanmar, to the Grand Hotel Europe in St Petersburg, Russia. Each has a unique sense of place, and the new Belmond Cap Juluca is no exception.

The sprawling resort of Greco-Moorish architecture is set on one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful stretches of sand, ticking off every tropical beach cliché imaginable: impossibly blue water, powder-white sand, palm trees…

There are four restaurants and bars, a large salt water pool, tennis courts, a fitness centre, library and private screening room, while outdoor diversions naturally revolve around the sea: scuba diving excursions, water skiing, wake boarding, sea kayaking, windsurfing, paddle boarding and sailing among them.

Cap Juluca is Belmond’s third resort in the Caribbean – joining Belmond La Samanna on the neighbouring island of St Martin and Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa in Riviera Maya, Mexico – but with a promise to double its portfolio by 2020, Belmond may well be back in this part of the world in the near future.
