Into the wild: where to forage for your supper in the Lake District

forage

Escape to the country with an expert chef to guide the way.

The Forest Side, in the beautiful English Lake District, is combining two of life’s greatest pleasures, food and nature, in an all-new foraging experience.

Heralding in the British springtime, The Forest Side’s Michelin-starred restaurant and rooms will present an immersive experience to food-loving travellers who fancy a frolic in the British countryside with the venue’s acclaimed Head Chef Kevin Tickle.

Tickle will take guests to the surrounding fields on an excursion to the Cumbrian woodland and fell tops, where they’ll source fresh Lake District produce. Previously Head Forager (yes, that’s a job) at Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume, the chef has in-depth knowledge of edible species in the region.

After a day spent foraging, guests can retreat to the renovated gothic mansion, by the fireplace, and dine at The Forest Side restaurant – naturally, they’ll feast on their foraged ingredients expertly prepared by Tickle.

The chef’s signature dishes include venison pastrami, smoked juniper yoghurt cais na tire, cucurbit relish and foraged greens.
