To start your Cape Town experience, Table Top Mountain is spectacular. The views are worth the visit. Then, it’s time for lunch at Chef’s Warehouse & Canteen owned by an old mate, Liam Tomlin and listed on The Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants for a culinary treat.

Walking along and exploring the V&A Waterfront is a great way to spend an afternoon – shopping, dining and watching the boats sail by.

Walk up to the beautiful and colourful Bo-Kaap, and marvel at the rows of gorgeous, brightly coloured houses, sitting at the bottom of Signal Hill. A vibrant neighbourhood with many families who have been living there for generations. This community offers visitors an array of delicious local Cape Malay food for a real, authentic experience.

A trip to Cape Town wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wine regions just outside of Cape Town. I highly recommend going to Babylonstoren, Foliage Restaurant run by Chris Erasmus (also listed on the Diners Club World’s 50 Best Restaurants list) as well as a visit to see Chef Michelle Theron at Hazendal Wine Estate. Besides the food, the scenery and views are spectacular, as are the wines.

You can’t leave South Africa without going to a Game Lodge for a safari experience! The Earth Lodge at Sabi Sabi. Described as the most environmentally sensitive lodge in Africa, this luxurious escape offered us a perfect game experience and one that I won’t forget.

When in South Africa, I must pay a visit to Johannesburg – a unique and interesting city with lots to see and do, as well as lots to eat. But I love David Higgs, so I always make an effort to visit both his restaurants: Marble, which offers delicious South African fare mixed with fire and some theatrics, and Saint, which is a ‘twisted Italian-style’ restaurant and bar in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg.
