With a USD$5000 cocktail on offer, it's obviously far nicer than the one on Tatooine. Words by Kelli Armstrong.
With my daughter safely enjoying Anna and Elsa’s Sommerhus lounge in the Oceaneer kids club, I arrive at another lounge, the first-of-its-kind Star Wars; Hyperspace Lounge onboard the sparkling new Disney Wish ocean liner.
From looking out to sea through giant portholes and waving at Mickey and Minnie Mouse to being faced with a galaxy far far away is the only way to describe the cruise ship to spaceship experience I arrive at with a group of other guests keen for an adults-only moment on the otherwise family cruise.

Through sliding doors we are transported from seagazing to stargazing as intergalactic happenings flash and swoosh behind the bar – both on the panoramic state-of-the-art screen and in the hands of talented bartenders.
Adorned with antiquities such as an idol from Batuu and a volcanic crystal from Mustafar, Hyperspace’s interiors are inspired by character Dryden Vos’ (a galactic gangster of wealth and taste) starcruising ship, First Light, and the Canto Casino, a playground for the rich and famous located on the desert planet Catonica.

Not having watched a Star Wars film since the ’90s, I’m learning all this from our host as scenes behind the bar dive into hyperspace with spacecraft and planets dashing through the darkness to destinations of the Republic, Empire and First Order. It’s quite the trip, even without the creative libations I sip and imagine Hans Solo tempting Princess Leia with in an alien bar light years away.
My tastebuds are quite taken by the Golden One, a sweet, creamy and colourful concoction that reflects the moons of Endor (the forested home to the Ewoks for those a little dusty on their Star Wars trivia). But it’s the Freetown Reserve that puts on a real show, combining botanicals from the land of Tatooine (once the home to Luke Skywalker but now inhabited by vagrants and ruled by Jabba the Hut) and a smoke show to reveal the Hyperspace logo in a glistening ice cube.

For die-hard fans with deep pockets, the USD$5000 Kaiburr Crystal cocktail serves four and arrives in a Camtono (a cylindrical treasure-holding case featured in the original trilogy) and includes Camus Cognac 4.16 and Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 23-year-old bourbon.
If these don’t meet your orbital inclinations, you can fall back on a pint of Mustafarian black ale, tar-hued with a thick coat like Darth Vader himself, or celebrate the planet Batuu’s annual bounty with a Batuuan Harvest Brew. A variety of specially selected wines from George Lucas’ Skywalker Vineyards (yes, this is a place and it’s in California) and mocktails for those already drunk on the out-of-this-world interiors are also available.
