Will travel for food? Here's where to sleep if your NYC trip is all about the eats, according to Food Director Phoebe Wood.

New York-ophiles know that there are endless accommodation options in the city that never sleeps. From swanky hotel rooms in Manhattan to affordable brownstones in Brooklyn, there’s a room for every taste and budget. But, if you’re a foodie like the delicious. team is, let’s face it, you choose your hotels based on their proximity to where you will be eating. My pick is chic, art-filled The NoMad hotel, on 29th and Madison, just north of Madison Square Park.

Apart from being a short walk to iconic destinations like The Empire State building, the Flatiron and Gramercy Park, it’s perfectly placed for a taste of the NY restaurant scene. I hit the pavement to explore the neighbourhood. Here are my top 6 foodie picks in walking distance:

  1. delicious. readers are known to travel based on their restaurant bookings. Where better to start than Eleven Madison Park. Named the best restaurant in the world 2017 in the highly coveted San Pellegrino Worlds 50 Best awards, the restaurant reopened 18 months ago after an extensive-refurbishment, to critical acclaim.
  2. Marta – Roman style pizza from NY stalwart Danny Meyers, whose impressive empire of restaurants include Grammercy Tavern and the Shake Shack collective. Marta boasts excellent thin-crust pizzas with the perfect crunchy golden crust.
  3. Scarpetta – go no further than the hotel itself to enjoy American-Italian fare at the neighbourhood favourite Scarpetta, where you can try house-made pasta made daily, and fresh crudo-like diver scallop with caviar and preserved lemon.
  4. If the great Australian coffee withdrawls have set in, head straight to Stumptown coffee for excellent espresso, drip coffee and cold brew, as well as pastries from Robertas, Ovenly and Blackseed.
  5. For a true taste of Oz, you won’t have to look far. Bourke St Bakery has opened its flagship US store on East 28th St between 5th and Madison. Expect the bakery’s signature choc-raspberry muffins, and of course the ginger brûlee tarts, as well as excellent croissants and their infamous sourdough loaves.
  6. There’s nothing like a hot slice from Don Pepi pizza at Penn Station. High turnover at the station means super fresh pies.
