Kaftan queen Camilla Franks' top 3 travel tips

Camilla x Tourism Dubai

The Aussie designer (and avid adventurer ) shares her essentials for seamless travel.

To say Australian designer Camilla Franks addicted to travel is a gross understatement. The fashion icon is a self-proclaimed nomad, with her Instagram showcasing her worldwide foray into destinations near and far. Franks’ passion for travel has also paved the way to help cultivate a new partnership with Dubai Tourism, leading to the anticipated My Dubai Dream capsule collection that’ll launch with purely with a travel-focused shopper in mind.

As an avid adventurer, Franks knows all too well the highs and lows involved in travel. But the designer is armed with a legion of tips and tricks to make transitioning from destination to destination as seamless as can be even when you are a self-confessed maximalist (as she is).

1. Value your carry on.
Place in your carry-on luggage any ‘can’t live without’ essentials, as well as any items you would be devastated to lose. “If you’re travelling with precious items, take them in your carry-on.  I’ve lost bags in the past (but have luckily got them back) and living in limbo wondering where your treasures are is just horrible!” says Franks. “Carry on is exactly where you store what you need  I also always pack a CAMILLA poncho for snuggling, and my tooth brush and bottle of SK-ll travel essence in my carry-on for long flights to hydrate my skin for a fresh arrival!” she continues.

2. Preparation is key.
Eliminate unnecessary stress by prepping in advance. “Print everything. Flights, visas, hotel confirmations – the lot. Sometimes things can slip through the cracks on the other end, so having printed documents can be a lifesaver. Also, there is nothing worse than getting off a long flight and fighting the crowds for a taxi! Kick start your trip on good note by booking a car to meet you at the airport and one to take you back,” Camilla suggests.

3. Don’t forget a partner in crime
“I cannot go anywhere without my Akubra hat, a camera to capture inspiration and a good drinking buddy – Head of Design, Jenna,” explains Frank.
