This desert oasis is hidden between the dunes of the Sahara

Nubia Desert Camp

And it's luxurious enough to make a nomad out of anyone.

Like a mirage, nestled between the tall red dunes of Erg Chegaga in Morocco lies a desert oasis in the form of eight authentically Moroccan tented suites. Nubia Desert Camp, a destination created with the ethos of celebrating the Moroccan way of life, offers a luxurious way to get up-close with the Sahara – a day’s drive from Marrakech, following the ancient caravan route.

The locally handmade tents (with an option of king size or twin bed, each swathed in Egyptian cotton) sleep up to four people and include private bathrooms. But this is not regular camping site. Each tent has solar-heated water and electricity on-site. Guests can also requests outdoor sleeping set-ups if they wish to lay directly beneath the stars.

By night, he tents are centered around a communal campfire, surrounded by rugs and pillows, set to a backdrop of Berber music. There’s also hammocks and lounge areas for further relaxation.

Despite the remote location, the camp’s private and group dining options are top-notch. An on-camp chef uses locally sourced ingredients to create Moroccan meals (catering to dietary requirements) – think lamb tagines with organic yoghurt, eggplant salads and couscous. Guests can also opt to picnic under the shade of nearby Tamarisk trees.

And yet, there’s more to do than laying in hammocks (for those who wish to pursue a little adventure). Camel rides and treks connect visitors with the tradition of the land’s nomadic people. For active travellers, sandboarding, quad biking and four-wheel drive tours are available too.
