Introducing the makeover eight months in the making.
Singapore’s accommodation options were just kicked up a notch with the long-awaited unveiling of the city’s Shangri-La. The hotel’s eight-month renovation introduce a Tower Wing, a stylish new space complete with a refurbished lobby, club lounge, and suites.
It’s not a hotel that shirks on decadence. Even the lobby leaves a lasting impression thanks to a ceiling art installation from Japanese designer Hirotoshi Sawada that covers the roof in thousands of cascading leaves. Ethnic Peranakan designs flank the rest of hotel, including its 503 guestrooms and suites.
But it’s the drinking and dining options that are probably most of note to travellers of Singapore. Sitting up high on level 24 is the Horizon Club Lounge (available to guests who book the Horizon Club Rooms). It’s a bar that offers views onto the Singapore skyline and is well designed to accommodate the demands of its guests – mobile workstations as well as 24-hour access are all a part of the package.
There are also three restaurants that form a part of the refurbished Tower Wing. The Lobby Lounge focuses on traditional Singaporean dishes that have been designed in collaboration with the best hawkers in town. There’s also a gourmet snack bar on hand – ShopHouse is a grab-and-go venue that stocks everything from cakes to elaborate sandwiches for those in a rush.
Then there’s NAMI Restaurant and Bar. Sitting high on level 24, the Japanese eatery is helmed by head chef Akiba Shigeo, who has plenty of experience in the luxe market, having cooked at the royal wedding of Japan’s Prince Akishinomiya and Princess Kiko. Guests at the venue can choose to sit out on the terrace or take a more interactive journey at the eatery by taking a seat at the counter and witnessing preparation right up to plating.
“Visiting the renovated Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore is like dropping in on a dear friend, but one who has just returned after a retreat. We have introduced new elements that smooth out the transition between work and life in a city, so you feel completely comfortable whether you are residing on a business trip, an event or a family staycation,” says hotel general manager Reto Klauser of the revamp.
