Would you rather take a bath filled with wine or coffee?

At this Japanese spa, the choice is yours.

If the idea of bathing in a natural hot spring in a traditional Japanese onsen is a little too basic for your more extravagant travelling tastes, we may have found a new relaxation experience that’ll pique your interest. And, possibly, whet your appetite too.

Just a short day trip from the busy streets of Tokyo is a spa theme park by the name of Yunessun – a place where spa-hopping becomes interesting. Of course, spa theme parks aren’t uncommon in Japan, but we’d wager that its offerings are somewhat unique – even for seasoned spa visitors.

Not only can you enjoy a soak in a serene outdoor tub overlooking mountainous scenery, take a candlelit bath of an evening, unwind in a ceramic bath, or slide into a warming pool via a water slide, but you can also opt to bathe in wine and coffee.

If sitting in a bath full of caffeinated brew takes your fancy, Yunessun’s coffee bath contains an aromatic, low-heat drip-style coffee, which is said to have rejuvenating qualities.

Perhaps ideal for bathing a little later in the day, the wine bath is said to have a rich scent and allows bathers to relax in grape-coloured bath-water blend. Although the spa doesn’t dabble in the details, it does suggest the wine bath prompts ‘beautification effects’.

Soon to open at the site is a ‘mysterious jelly fish bath’ that features illuminated blue waters set within a dark, cavernous room, with in-built jellyfish tanks surrounding the baths.
