Top 5 places in the world to eat steak

Firedoor, Sydney

A steak's a steak, right? Not when our genius butcher Anthony Puharich is on the case.

When it comes to steak, there’s possibly nobody more qualified to tell you exactly where to get a great one than Anthony Puharich, owner of premium butcher Victor Churchill and Vic’s Meat Market. Grab your steak knife, pour a glass of red: it’s time to get meaty.

1. Peter Luger, Brooklyn, New York City

Peter Luger is about as old school as they come, and while there’s only one steak on the menu, it’s a damn good one.
Also try: the baked New York cheesecake.

2. Chi Spacca, Los Angeles

This small and intimate space makes for a very cool dining experience. I always sit at the bar where I have a front row view of my steak being grilled to perfection. Also try: the house-made cured meats.

3. My house, Sydney

What can I say? I do a pretty mean BBQ at home – it helps that I have access to the best meat in the world! My go-to weapon of choice is my Big Green Egg.

4. Burnt Ends, Singapore

I just plain love this place. Fun and buzzy, Dave Pynt is one super-talented chef.

5. Firedoor, Sydney

I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody more passionate about or dedicated to the art of mastering and perfecting the interaction between wood, fire and a slab of meat than chef Lennox Hastie, the man at the fire pit within Firedoor. Sydney is blessed to have this guy cooking in our city. The signature 180-day dry aged rib eye steak must be one of the best pieces of meat I have ever eaten.
