To the uninitiated visitor, Ka Jok See might look a lot like any other local restaurant you’d visit while holidaying in Thailand. But, this is no casual eatery. This is Phuket’s iconic nightlife experience, known and frequented by travellers from all over the world. And, it books out months in advance.

Yes, you can visit Ka Jok See for authentic Thai cuisine. And, you’ll get that too. But there’s so much more to this unassuming dining room space than meets the eye. The people you thought were simply your waiters for the evening? They’re now the dancers. The tables you thought were just for dining? They’re now for dancing on.

After you polish off your plates, the staff slides the tables back and suddenly the room is filled with talented, flamboyantly made-up performers and the sounds of retro dance hits. Soon enough, a limbo pole emerges, the lights are dimmed (and disco lights are switched on), confetti falls and mojitos are shared around en masse.

Surprisingly, this late-night venue is somewhat family friendly too. Though many parents tend to take their tiny dancers home before closing time, many patrons continue on until 4am, or until their legs can boogie no more.

But, as the Luxe Nomad suggests, this is not the kind of venue you can simply wander into on a whim. You’ll need to make a booking, with haste.
