Let off some steam on this all-you-can-drink tequila train in Mexico

An all-you-can-drink tequila train now exists in Mexico

From counting stops to counting shots.

An all-you-can-drink offer might sound like a big night out at your local dive bar, but get ready to feast your taste buds on this: an 11-hour open bar train journey that snakes through picturesque agave country in Mexico.

Starting at (tequila) sunrise or sunset, the Jose Cuervo Express has launched a new “Tequila Train” journey between Guadalajara and Tequila, where you’ll not only sample the best tequila the country has to offer, but also get an insight into how the local spirit is made.

The new Elite Wagon is the latest of four offerings on the Express and it’s not hard to imagine yourself sinking into one of the large desert-hued couches amid the stylish timber carriage, watching the majestic landscape roll by and sipping on exclusive cocktails from the dedicated open bar.

Delicious local and regional snacks are provided (and just as well because these are spirits with a serious punch), as well as a three-glass educational tasting session run by an expert taster. So, get prepared to sample some of Jose Cuervo’s premium Reserva de la Familia tequila, including the Platinum, Reposado and Extra Añejo.

What we really love about this trip is how vibrant it is: from the mariachi and the rowdy Mexico-style bingo and games, to the visit to La Rojeña – the oldest distillery in Latin America in the town of Tequila itself.

Tequila production is synonymous with this region in Mexico and as you travel through the agave fields listening to Mexican folk music you’ll wonder if you’re ready for another drink.

It’s worth a shot (or two), right?
