If you’ve ever been curious about Abu Dhabi, now is the time to explore and discover more. Virtually… of course. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism is giving armchair tourists a taste of that old emirates magic during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, with the launch of their new virtual experience platform this week. 

The platform is overflowing with virtual tours, cooking workshops, courses and workshops, and virtual entertainment all aimed at encouraging explorers to stay home, stay safe and #StayCurious.

The new platform, launched this week in the wake of crippling global travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, offers those stuck in quarantine a chance to explore Abu Dhabi in 360-degree surround. Some of the experiences include a tour of the garden city of Al Anin and a virtual walk through the Grand Mosque. Or for those who prefer to take a bird’s eye view – see it from above, with an aerial tour.

If cultural landmarks are more your thing, a virtual tour through Al Jahili Fort could be more your speed. And for the thrill-seekers among us, dune-bashing, sand surfing and the rush of a hot lap at the Yas Island speedway is exactly what will cure your cabin fever. On top of that? You can also ride the world’s fastest rollercoaster Formula Rossa.

For the foodies among you, the platform’s Stay Indulgent culinary portal will become a go-to. It features cooking classes and behind-the-scenes interviews with some of Abu Dhabi’s top chefs, including Simone Federici of Sheraton Abu Dhabi, Masterchef India’s Kunal Kapur and Ando Takashi and Eber Villalobos of Jumeirah at Etihad Towers. You’ll learn to make some of their best dishes, including Spaghettata Alle Vongole; Wood, Earth & Fire Salad and the famous La Bomba dessert.

The site also allows you to enjoy water spouts, cultural exhibits, museum tours and local attractions. It also offers a bunch of online workshops aimed at encouraging travellers to learn more about the region.
