Nestled between the trees of a wildlife-filled remote reserve in South Africa, a private treehouse has opened – and there’s every chance you’ll spot the local lions from your open rooftop.

Luxury travel group &Beyond has launched Ngala Treehouse Experience, where you can get up-close to the wildlife in a private game reserve in South Africa (from the safety of your accommodation).

Inside the four-floor treehouse

Guests can choose from two sleeping areas. There's an enclosed (and weatherproof) bedroom, complete with a king-sized bed, a hot running shower and flushing toilet on the third level – or, for the adventurous, an elevated sleep-out platform on the rooftop set beneath a retractable awning so you can sleep under the stars. And, a chic bathroom decorated in natural materials (secluded by the surrounding trees) brings the outdoors in through transparent screening.

Solitude and serenity

You can arrive at the Treehouse in time for sunset with cocktails and snacks – or, roll in after alate afternoon game-watching drive. A tapas-style picnic dinner awaits on your rooftop under the stars. Guests are then left alone for the night, (with a trusty radio and mobile phone, just in case.)

The location

Sitting on the border of Kruger National Park, &Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve shares open borders with one of South Africa’s famed wilderness areas, allowing large animals to wander freely through the reserve – which is home to several large prides of lion. Packs of the endangered African wild dog may also be spotted wandering through the landscape.

Midnight munchies?

After your tapas picnic dinner, you can enjoy access to a fully stocked bar and selection of midnight and breakfast snacks, alongside a coffee station.

Privacy at its peak

Rest assured, the only eyes that may pry through your screened abode are those of neighbouring wildlife. The Treehouse is also solar-powered, so you can keep your camera charged at the ready.

One night only

The Treehouse is an is designed for overnight stays to complement a visit to one of the reserve’s two permanent lodges, &Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge or &Beyond Ngala Tented Camp.

Romantic rendezvous or family getaways

Ngala Treehouse can cater for a maximum of two adults and two children aged between 10 and 16 in the two sleeping areas, one of which is the open sleep-out platform.
