The Royal Horticultural Society’s annual Chelsea Flower Show is the Fashion Week of the plant world, attracting more than 150,000 visitors each year, including the world’s best garden designers and creatives, A-list celebrity guests and even the royal family. The 2018 show saw award-winning designs by Seedlip founder Ben Branson – his celebrated the British pea, a key ingredient in his Seedlip Garden 108 non-alcoholic distilled spirit – and a gin-themed garden by top British garden designer David Neale. Tickets for the 2019 show, from 21-25 May, are a hot commodity, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.

If you’re not lucky enough to score a ticket to the Chelsea Flower Show, you can bask in the floral fragrance of spring at alternative floral art show Chelsea in Bloom. It runs from 20-25 May 2019, with colourful installations and window displays spilling onto the streets of Chelsea. The neighbourhood’s best retailers, hotels and restaurants all take part, and you can catch the action on Sloane Street, Sloane Square, King’s Road, Duke of York Square and Cadogan Gardens.

The Chelsea Fringe Festival runs concurrently to the original Chelsea Flower Show (18-26 May 2019), but is only Chelsea by name and not nature. This festival pops-up across London with (mostly) free events including performances, walks, talks, tours, workshops, and food and drink pop-ups from Hampstead Heath to Hackney. Quirky is the name of the game – think a treehouse cinema and a pothole garden in Dalston.

The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is the largest flower show in the world. Held at the height of summer in the idyllic grounds of King Henry VIII’s palace on the banks of the River Thames on the western fringe of London, there are floral displays and even workshops to inspire seasoned gardeners and budding green thumbs alike. 2019’s show runs from 1-7 July.

Every day is a flower show at Kew Gardens, London’s sprawling botanical garden and home to the largest and most diverse botanical and fungi collections in the world. Just 30 minutes from central London, the 250-year-old gardens contain the largest Victorian glasshouse in the world, all glass and curly white steel, The Hive, a permanent installation to explore the world of bees, and plenty of green spaces to wander in wonder, from the Japanese and bamboo gardens, to the edible kitchen garden.
