A visit to La Casa Azul – Frida Kahlo’s birthplace and childhood home – is a highlight of any Mexican holiday. Now a historic museum dedicated to the life and art of the iconic painter, the Museo Frida Kahlo contains a collection of artwork by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and other artists along with the couple’s Mexican folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, personal items, and more.

Designed by travellers for travellers, this high end B&B is set in a 1920s building overlooking Alameda Central park. This museum is home to one of Diego Rivera’s most famous works, Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central (Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central), a 15m-long mural painted in 1947, which features many of the figures who walked in the city from colonial times onward, among them Hernán Cortés, Benito Juárez, Porfirio Díaz and Francisco Madero – and of course Ms Frida Kahlo.
