Lowell Farms’ new cannabis cafe is not the dingy den you might expect from a cannabis joint (pun wholeheartedly intended). This contemporary, verdant locale boasts lush alfresco and indoor spaces with thoughtful artisanal touches throughout, dressed in natural materials. The focus at Lowell Cafe is on much more than the cafe’s own Lowell Smokes, presenting a sophisticated farm-to-table eatery highlighting local cuisine (alongside the cannabis).

One of the distinct cafe offering’s will be its tableside ‘Flower Service’, where a Lowell Farms’ Flower Host (a little like a sommelier) will talk diners through the day’s featured variety of cannabis strains – including the effects and origins of its contents – while hand-rolling customers’ smokes.

Renowned chef Andrea Drummer will lead the food offerings, and the restaurant’s cuisine will represent Californian flavors through seasonal dishes that are ‘complementary to the effects of THC’. Cocktails have been given special attention too. The site’s red rose cocktail (pictured) named the ‘Fountain of Youth’ is made with house-made organic rose water, a rosemary infused simple syrup, cold pressed lime juice and a splash of soda water.

In keeping with the lifestyle of its Hollywood neighbourhood, the restaurant will offer a ‘first-of-its-kind’ nightlife experience. The eatery intends to serve as a ‘safe environment for all to enjoy and learn about consumption in the newly legal world of cannabis’.

Alongside lighter dishes including buratta with grilled peaches, a hearty buttermilk chicken sandwich will be on hand for bigger appetites. Buttermilk fried chicken comes topped with a kale and brussels sprout slaw, heirloom tomatoes and housemade pickles. Also on the plate will be a helping of housemade chips.

If sweet cravings strike, diners can enjoy the signature ‘Sweet FL(HIGH)T’. Think sticky millionaire’s bacon, caramel popcorn with thai chilli almonds, peanut butter cookies, a milk and cereal ice-cream sandwich, sweet potato beignets, matcha and black sesame cake, creme brulee and homemade s’mores.

Guests can pair the likes of Brussels sprouts and white turnips with their preferred choice of smoke, at this unique venue. Balance, right?

Alongside the more robust and sweet menu items will be wholesome snacks like white bean and avocado hummus with pickled seasonal vegetables.

No smoker need get a case of the dry mouth at this cannabis cafe. Try the ‘Lincoln Haze’, a smoked cherry cocktail made with cherry puree, star-anise-infused English breakfast tea, cold-pressed lime juice, and an apricot and smoked hickory shrub. The glass will be smoked with mesquite while the drink is being built, and is garnished with edible marigold flowers and an orange peel.
