An open-air live music venue with some of the best views in town, Park Orsula is situated on a sea-facing slope, just 3km southeast of Dubrovnik. Grab a beer from the kiosk, take a seat in its amphitheatre-like semi circled terrace, listen to some local live bands as you take in sweeping views of the Old Town and the Adriatic.

Just outside the walls of the old town, Dance Beach is a little complicated to get to, but well worth the effort. Walk to Gradac Park and follow the narrow path going downhill to the seashore, and you’ll be rewarded with a sparkling, protected bay perfect for swimming and sunbathing, plus a beach bar to keep you hydrated.

Know your Pale Ales from your IPAs? Head to craft brewery Buzz Bar, a convivial spot to sample a local Croatia beers such as San Servolo from Istria, Zmajska from Zagreb and Vunetovo from Hvar, while kicking back to some live acoustic guitar.

Located a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik, Lokrum is the perfect island escape for some respite from the crowds. Here peacocks roam, a ruined 12th century fort still stands and a cache of sparkling beaches dot the coastline.

Close to the medieval Lovrijenac fortress, this quirky café-cum-bar features glow in the dark bar tables, a riotous display of colour and – saving the best for last – customised bathtubs to hang out in. Be sure to sample their impressive range of rakijas, the grappa-like spirit popular throughout Croatia.

An ancient quarantine barracks from Napoleon’s era has been given a new lease on life. Rather than Napoleon’s soldiers, you’ll now see party-revellers roaming around its courtyards and a sunken dance-floor, where international DJs and live bands rock it out most nights of the week.

Literally carved into Dubrovnik’s city walls, it doesn’t get more waterfront than this. The drinks are a little on the pricey side, but it’s worth it to hang by the sea all day, cooling off in the ocean before buying another round of mojitos. Feeling brave? Take the plunge off the nearby cliff known as ‘The Lion’ (not for the faint of heart).

An open-air cinema in the heart of the old town, Jardan is the ultimate venue to catch a flick during your sta. The Lindo folklore ensemble performs there twice weekly during summer, so you can get a double hit of culture on a warm summer’s night in the pearl of the Adriatic.

Set in a protected bay with uninterrupted views of the Old Town, Sveti Jakov is another local favourite for swimming, offering sun loungers, umbrellas and cold drinks.

An easy bus-ride from town, Hotel Belvedere is an abandoned hotel which was bombed during the civil war in the late 80s. It recently served as one of the many sets for Game of Thrones, and is a fascinating place to explore, with gorgeous views of the Adriatic and Dubrovnik’s iconic Old Town.
