This luxe Mauritian stay is a celebration of colour and sustainability
Here’s where to live your best Mauritian life.
Welcome to Salt of Palmar
A colourful, sustainable, design-savvy resort by the name of Salt has just touched down on the white sandy shores of Mauritius.
Let's talk about the decor
London-based French artists Camille Walala (whose work you may remember from an iconic Gorman clothing range or the buildings of Shoreditch) was tasked with putting her colourful touch on the resort’s decor – enlisting the assistance of local makers. We can see the Instagram likes flashing before our greedy eyes.
It's all about Mauritius
Salt has a strong food focus, and insists on supporting local farmers, producers and artisans to ensure the miles are kept low and the locals are supported.
Beyond the beaches
It turns out there’s more to this renowned destination than beaches and cocktails. Mauritius is a fruit bowl, where quality food abounds. Guests can skill share with local growers and makers, and learn about the slow food movement.
Go with the seasonal flow
At Salt, the food philosophy is centered on fresh, local, homemade, seasonal and, importantly zero-waste provisions.
The Mauritian way
The concept behind the resort encapsulates the local energy and pays homage to the colourful, laid-back style of its vibrant surrounds.
And, it's suitably luxe
Mauritian architect, Maurice Giraud created the 59-room resort that leads out directly onto Palmar Beach.
Eat as the locals do
The in-house bakery proffers freshly baked breads, the kitchen serves fish that has been line caught only hours before being served, preserves are made from organic locally grown produce to reduce waste, and the Salt Farm will cultivate hydroponic fruit and vegetables.
Get your hands dirty
A farming school will connect people, place and plate, and teach guests about sustainable cooking, with the help of the island’s residents.
Rush to relax
Better yet, there’s a 25-metre pool, Salt Equilibrium offers relaxing, salt-based treatments and guests can come together for The Sunrise Run Club, sunrise salutations on the beach, meditation at Brahmakumari, dawn photography tours, hike and bike tours, yoga at the Salt Farm Shala and many other activities.
