Here’s why we’re hurriedly packing our bags for a glamping destination nestled deep within the pristine wilderness of Cambodia’s South Cardamom National Park.
In fact, it’s barely camping. At Shinta Mani Wild, which opens in December 2018, the accommodation is about as luxe as you can get in a remote, wilderness setting. Arrive by jeep, or by a 380m zipline (in true Tarzan style), where butlers will meet you with cooling refreshments. There are fifteen customized luxury tents on site, set along the riverfront. This is luxury safari-style accommodation at its most opulent.
Shinta Mani Wild’s Chef Kien Wagner will be foraging (sustainably) each day for edible plants to compliment the meat and seafood offerings prepared in his jungle-bound kitchen. And, guests are welcomed to join him on his foraging expeditions too. The camp will also have a permaculture farm, and will support local farmer and fishers. Mud crabs are the local delicacy, and fresh organic produce is the talented chef’s focus.
But it can be. Those more adventurous travellers can spend days exploring the waterways by boat or kayaks, discovering the forest with anti-poaching rangers and researchers, and spotting wildlife in the untamed forest. Local naturalists have also developed a range of hikes for visitors. After a day’s adventuring, it’s time to lounge in the Landing Zone Bar, enjoy the Waterfall restaurant and take full advantage of the Boulders Spa.
The Shinta Mani foundation will be promoting community outreach programs to ensure the national park is cared for – and, will partner with conversation organisations to make sure that one of Asia’s most naturally beautiful forest ecosystems is carefully preserved.
