A private villa in the Maldives doesn’t sounds too bad right about now. Especially when that private villa sits hovering above crystal clear waters in which you can splash about to your heart’s content. That’s exactly what guests can expect at the Maldives’ Soneva Jani. The entire premise of the 24-villa resort is to reconnect visitors with nature in whatever way possible. Translating to ‘wisdom’ in sanskrit, Soneva Jani sits on and around the 150-acre island of Medhufaru, within a private 5.6-kilometre pristine lagoon with uninterrupted 360° vistas of the neighbouring Indian Ocean Every villa at Soneva Jani comes equipped with a 13-metre private pool (some accessorised with water slides), there’s also a retractable roof in the master bedroom of most, and glass-bottomed areas to glance at the depths of sea below. Guests can choose from a one, two, three and four bedroom villas, with room additions that include a top deck dining area, outdoor patio with a sunken dining table, an open-air bathroom with bathtub and shower, and direct access to the bathroom through a staircase stemming from the lagoon below. But perhaps most impressive is the resort’s collection of amenities. First and foremost is the ‘silent cinema’, where guests are given Bluetooth earphones to prevent disturbance of wildlife nesting nearby. There’s also an overwater observatory, five separate dining options, a spa, a library, a tennis court, a labyrinth garden, and a wine cellar. If that isn’t a lengthy enough list of reasons to book your flight to the Maldives asap than you’re willpower is stronger than ours.
