You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream.

Who doesn’t love ice cream? We’d honestly go as far as calling it the great unifier. But do you think you like ice cream substantially more than others? Consider yourself a bit of an ice-cream cone-noisseur? Well, you’re just the kind of person Air New Zealand is looking for.

Air New Zealand is on the hunt for three Chief Ice Cream Tasters, which may just be the coolest summer job you ever have. The national carrier is teaming up with Appleby Farms to whip up a limited-edition summer flavour that will be consumed by hundreds of thousands of passengers onboard. But for the new flavour to fly it needs the Chief Ice Cream Taster’s seal of approval. This is where you come in. A Chief Ice Cream Taster it will be your responsibility to taste-test ice-cream flavours and decide which scoop deserves to hit the skies.

Successful applicants will join Air New Zealand for a one-off tasting day in Nelson, where your verdict will help crown the official Air New Zealand summer ice cream flavour. Think of it as a board meeting, but with sprinkles.

So how does one ice-cream-lover land this dream gig? There is no age limit. From young in age to young at heart, all ages are welcome to apply. You’ll need to prove your passion. Air New Zealand will accept references such as empty ice-cream tubs or selfies with scoops. Successful applicants will also have to ensure they have brain freeze stamina, dessert demolition skills and can stay cool under pressure.

If you land this sweet gig Air New Zealand will cover the return flight to Nelson for the exclusive tasting day, plus one night of accommodation. Chief Ice Cream Taster’s will also get a behind-the-scenes peek at how Appleby Farms churns their legendary scoops as well as a local Nelson adventure covered by the airline.

Think you’ve got what it takes to lick the competition? Apply via the Air New Zealand Careers page by 21 September 2025, careers.airnewzealand.co.nz

This is a promotional activity only. Participation in the Chief Ice Cream Taster tasting day is a one-off promotional activity and does not involve the performance of work or services. This is not an offer of employment with Air New Zealand or Appleby Farms.
