Why not go solo.
Solo travel is on the rise. Need proof? During the most recent post-pandemic years Google data shows that search for solo travel has risen by 761.15%. More and more travellers are keen to holiday even if no one wants to join them.
Wizz Air, an ultra-low-cost airline that operates out of Hungry, recently conducted a study with researchers ranking cities based on Tripadvisor reviews tagged ‘solo travellers’ in 2023. The budget airline looked specifically at restaurant and attractions reviews in destinations and calculated the percentage of five-star reviews and ranked the cities to make up its list of the 20 best European cities for solo travellers.
So if you’re keen on travelling on your own this year, take note. Greece’s island city of Rhodes came out on top with 76% of its solo-traveller Tripadvisor reviews rated five stars. The island is known for its beach resorts, ancient ruins and its iconic Old Town.

Coming in at second is Split in Croatia, which needs no introduction. After the seaside city was featured in many Game of Thrones scenes it has become a go-to destination in Europe. Following Croatia and coming in equal third is Faro, Portugal, and Istanbul, Turkey. Faro scored the majority of its five-star reviews for its attractions and Istanbul scored highly for its food.
