Can you dig it?
There’s no denying that COVID-19 has had a massive impact on the travel industry and on our future travel plans. But have you ever stopped to consider how the global pandemic may have impacted regions that depend upon tourism to sustain their economy?
As one of the most popular island destinations in the world, Bora Bora welcomes plenty of travellers each year, so it should come as no surprise that the lack of incoming travellers has had a significant impact on local businesses and communities.
One of the local Bora Bora expedition companies has decided to embrace the new normal in by creating a community fruit and vegetable garden for employees.
FA’A’APU ORA (meaning garden of life in Tahitian) was constructed as a place for Moana Adventure Tours employees to grow fruit and vegetables for personal consumption, the community project aims to improve the lives of around forty families as a result.
Created without the use of chemicals or pesticides, the employee garden project is an ideal example of the innovative ways that the travel industry is embracing the new normal.
The project is now calling for donations to help cover the cost of seeds, tools and setup materials. At the time of publishing, the community garden had raised around €2,470 of their €5,000 goal.
Donations can be made at the FA’A’APU ORA Community Garden go fund me page.
