Fancy living like a lord?
Downton Abbey superfans will soon get the chance to live like a Crawley for a night. The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon are cordially inviting two lucky commoners to their home, with the chance to sleep, drink and dine like royalty. To celebrate the release of the Downton Abbey movie, the (huge) doors of Highclere Castle in Hampshire will be opened on November 26. Fair warning, the Airbnb listing is only available for one night and two guests, so it’ll be a royal race.
Deciding which room to stay in might prove difficult, with the castle housing over 300. Once you’ve settled in, join the earl and countess for evening cocktails in the saloon, followed by a traditional dinner in the state dining room. The night continues in the grand library with a cup of coffee, before retiring to one of the many luxurious suites. Rise and shine the next morning for breakfast and a private tour of the castle grounds, then enjoy a ‘special gift’ from Lord and Lady Carnarvon themselves.

It’s a fully immersive experience with no TV or wifi available in the rooms, so you’re guaranteed a real taste of 20th-century life. Oh, and only one butler per guest is allowed so manage your expectations accordingly.
Unsurprisingly, you’ll need a stellar Airbnb record to be considered. You’d be wise to start polishing up that report card before applying – no messy guests allowed!
With all this in mind, it certainly won’t be Downton shabby, so we suggest limbering up those fingers for when tickets go on sale on October 1.
