Hotel restaurants have come a long way from their early incarnations that would have guests wanting to leave their accommodation, at any hour, in search of a decent bite to eat. Now, the tables have turned, and in some cases hotel restaurants are becoming a destination in their own rights. Few, however, are all-vegetarian with a menu designed by a beloved Australian cookbook author.

For many food lovers in Australia, the name Hetty McKinnon needs know introduction. The salad enthusiast turned cookbook author behind Arthur Street Kitchen may now reside in New York City, but her heart is south of the equator.

And, the talented cook has teamed up with none other than creatively slant, boundary-nudging Ovolo Hotels to create a purely vegetarian restaurant at the group’s new Central Hotel in Hong Kong: Veda.

The all-day veggie menu pays homage to the homeland, while honouring Eastern cuisines, with an all-Australian wine menu, 7 cocktails designed for each day of the week (or each sin), Pablo & Rusty’s coffee and feel-good food designed to share.

Each dish features Hetty’s signature cuisine-blending style – full of flavour, wholesome and sustaining. Think zatar-roasted carrots and quinoa, pan puri potatoes, crispy kale-topped gnocchi and fig cheesecake.

Of course, Ovolo’s adjoined Central Hotel has all the panache, flare and fun-filled artworks that exemplify the group’s signature style.

Themed rooms, bold decor, individual touches and sophisticated furnishings offer an exciting alternative to the minimal designs you’d expect from many inner-city hotels. Guests can expect the unexpected at this centrally located Hong Kong stay.
