Some assembly required.
IKEA has launched Vacations in a Box to help travel-starved detainees recreate their favourite travel destinations at home, although there may be some assembly required.
“Since you can’t travel the world, let’s bring your favourite destinations to you,” promises the brand’s website, which offers vacations in a box to some of the world’s most beautiful places, like Cappadocia, Tokyo, Paris and the Maldives.
Each box is filled to the bring with home furnishings, accessories and products that are designed to help you recreate each destination in the comfort of your COVID-free home.
The Sunrise in Cappadocia box comes with everything you need to recreate the magic of first light in Turkey. It includes espresso cups, a coffee tin, a faux palm tree and some very lavish throw cushions, along with tips on recreating the experience at home through music, movies and food.
Meanwhile, the Teatime in Tokyo box promises to transform your loungeroom into a Tokyo tea room, including a faux potted bamboo, teapot, infuser and a booklet containing movies, music and recipes to help transport you completely.
There’s also a L’amour in Paris box, which contains everything you need to recreate the romance of a Parisian bistro on your balcony, and a Feet up in the Maldives box that’s designed to bring a little taste of the tropics to those stuck WFH.
Currently, the boxes are only available to order via the brand’s United Arab Emirates arm. However, the website does list everything that’s included in each box, so anyone in possession of an enterprising-enough spirit and a few spare hours could feasibly recreate them, if they were so inclined.
