The best things in life are free.

Thanks to the Japanese yen being so weak right now, Aussies who’ve always had Japan on their bucket list are taking full advantage of how affordable the destination has become. Flocking to the Land of the Rising Sun in droves, more than 462,000 Australians have visited Japan this year alone. And Japan Airlines’ new initiative is only going to entice more Aussies, so if you weren’t looking to book a holiday today we recommend you proceed with caution.

The flag carrier of Japan is offering international travellers complimentary domestic flights to any destination within Japan when booking an international flight with Japan Airlines. To break it down for you, as long as you book your initial flight from Australia to Tokyo with Japan Airlines then your internal flights with the airline will be free. Passengers will also need to book the free domestic flights at the same time as booking the initial international flight to Tokyo to qualify for the complimentary flights.  Mt Fuji in backdrop of photo of Japan.

The initiative is quite the saving when you look at the cost of other modes of transport between cities. For example, a shinkansen (bullet train) ticket between Tokyo and Osaka is usually more than $100 one way. So free domestic flights can save Aussie travellers hundreds of dollars that can be better spent on bowls of ramen and plates of sushi.

If you are planning a trip to Japan, specifically Tokyo, we’ve got you covered. We’ve scoured the capital city for the best restaurants (here) and places to eat sushi (here) and slurp ramen (here).
