With this many distractions, you might just forget all about your flight.
Typically, time spent in airports marks the part of our travels we would be glad to bypass. And yet, this new airport might see pit-stoppers happy to linger a little longer.
Opening its doors to the public on 17 April, Jewel Changi Airport will become one part airport, one part tourist destination.
Extending on Singapore’s existing Changi Airport (best known for its street food market and butterfly gardens), Jewel will feature a large steel and glass design (from the architect behind the iconic Marina Bay Sands hotel), a four-storey climbing garden, and a 40-metre tall ‘Rain Vortex’ (the world’s tallest indoor waterfall).
In June 2019, the Canopy Park (a space the size of 11 Olympic swimming pools combined) on the highest level of Jewel, will provide a large walking trail for those hoping to stretch their legs following a long-haul flight.
Within the new airport will also be a bevy of stores, dining options and entertainment for those in transit. In fact, there’ll be 280 shops and eateries, a maze, a bouncing net, a walking net, a bridge, giant slides and a sculpture playground – alongside a 130-room airport hotel: Yotelair.
