And who’s surprised? Not us.

It really doesn’t come as a shock to us Aussies when our beautiful country is listed on lists ranking the best cities, towns, beaches, regions, you name it. We know how good we have it Down Under and so does Lonely Planet. The expert travel guide publishers just released its prestigious Best in Travel 2025 list and, naturally, Australia has taken out some top spots across different categories.

In the prestigious Top 10 Regions in the world list, Tasmania’s Launceston and the Tamar Valley came in fourth thanks to its incredible landscape, impressive wineries and artisanal producers and restaurants.

“With a globally recognised food and wine scene, complemented by stunning scenery from the rolling hills of Tamar Valley, the natural wonder of Cataract Gorge right at the city’s doorstep and some of our state’s most unique tourism offerings and experiences, it is no surprise that Launceston and the Tamar Valley is listed as one of the top regional destinations to visit in the world,” says Vanessa Pinto, Acting CEO Tourism Tasmania.

Lowcountry, South Carolina and Georgia were ranked the best region in the world, followed by Nepal’s Terai in second position and Panama’s Chiriqui in third place.

Australia also took out the two top spots in Lonely Planet‘s Top 10 Best Beaches list. Probably Australia’s most crowned and renowned sandy shore line, Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island, was named the best in the world, which is not surprising. But what is surprising is that a state not necessarily known for its beaches is home to the second best beach in the world, according to Lonely Planet. Squeaky Beach in Victoria was runner up to Whitehaven Beach.

So there you have it folks, Australia shines on the world stage once again.
