Because it's not footy season without Australia's favourite snack. Words by Georgia Lejeune.
Although Melbournites are currently restricted from enjoying a cold one at the pub or a flaky, hot pie while cheering on their favourite team at The G (MCG for those not living in Victoria), that doesn’t mean they can’t crack open a cold one while enjoying Melbourne’s finest pies in the best seat in their house.

Powered by Melbourne start-up ordering platform Cookaborough, some of the city’s finest independent bakers have teamed up to bring you a box of goodies to celebrate footy finals season for Friday Pie Day.
You don’t need to be a footy fan to reap the benefits of pie day – should this become a national holiday? – there’s a flaky treat for everyone. The Smith and Deli vegan ‘cheesy’ cauliflower pie and the vegan Magnum Pi Sri Lankan jackfruit curry pies will cater to meat-avoiders, whereas, the Westside beef pie or Johnny Ripe sausage rolls are perfect for your carnivorous mates.

If you’re a premature pie-eater, never fear, the team have curated a selection of cold beverages to wash away the pain from a searing bite. There’s a Creamy Soda Highball for a little ’90s nostalgia, Mountain Goat beer for the footy purists or a bottle of Melbourne-made The Publican Gin (brewed by your mates at Little Lon Distilling Co.).

No matter your pie flavour, or team you’re barracking for (both as controversial), everyone can agree on a dessert of St Gerry’s donuts and maybe even a cheese platter for a bit of class.

Orders are open now for prelims and the grand final. Visit cookaborough.com/Friday-pie-day to book your box of goodies.
