Sorry, Sydney and Melbourne.
The New York Times has released its annual 52 Places to go in 2024 list, and not one, but two Aussie destinations made the cut. While you may assume big ticket cities like Sydney and Melbourne would make the list you would be wrong. Tasmania and Brisbane came out victorious placing 29th and 39th, respectively.
Tasmania was included for its eco-friendly and Indigenous experiences as well as its locavore menus on offer at majority of restaurants on the island state. Star Tasmanian chef Annalise Gregory, who is known for her wild-cooking and hang-gathered ingredients, was also mentioned in the article as her yet-to-be-named restaurant that is set to open this year is likely to draw food lovers to the Aussie state.

It should come as no surprise that Brissy also made the cut for its food and drink offering. It’s one of the cities we are most excited to eat in this year. The expansion of the Queen’s Wharf area and restaurants like Agnes and Vertigo and cultural hub, Brisbane Powerhouse, are playing a part in making Brisbane one of the most exciting cities to visit in 2024.
