Love tequila? A 750ml bottle of this blend is priced at $1,460.

On the edge of the picturesque Baja Peninsula in Mexico, ultra-luxe resort One&Only Palmilla is a destination for discerning travellers. Now, the resort has collaborated with Clase Azul Spirits to formulate a special-edition, custom blend of Joven tequila.

The tequila, inspired by the Sea of Cortez, combines three special varieties of tequilas (two aged for 25 months in reclaimed bourbon barrels and one for five years in a sherry cask), and only 100 bottles have been produced. The result is a spirit with notes of oak, caramel, cherry and citrus.

Each tequila is made using organic agave plants, from which the heart is harvested and slow-cooked in a traditional brick oven for up to 72 hours. The hearts are then crushed for juices, to which yeast is added, and left to ferment. Then, the alcohol distilled twice.

As for the vessel? The Clase Azul decanter is made and hand-painted by a small community of indigenous artisans in the small Mexican town of Santa Maria Canchesdaì. More than two hundred local artists spent their days hand-crafting the bottles, and each bottle takes two weeks to produce. A decanter of the bespoke blend will set guests back USD $1,000 (around AUD $1,460) for 750ml.
