Ski ya later.

It’s no secret Aussies love to take advantage of Japan’s pristine snow season, even if getting there has historically been a little convoluted – often involving a stopover or overnight stay at one of the major Japanese cities before transferring to the fields. But Qantas is set to change that.

The Aussie flag carrier has announced that it will provide the only nonstop connection between Australia and Japan’s ski fields with its new Sydney to Sapporo route. Keen skiers and snowboarders will be able to shave hours off their journey thanks to the new route.

The Sydney-Sapporo flights will operate three times per week from December 12, 2025, to March 28, 2026, offering more than 20,000 seats across the northern ski season. Direct flights will depart Sydney in the morning and arrive at Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport in the early evening. Upon returning to Australia, skiers will be able to enjoy the morning on the slopes before departing for Sydney in the evening.

You’ll be able to book return Economy fares from Sydney to Sapporo from today. All Qantas fares include checked baggage allowance, food and beverages and inflight entertainment.

The new Sapporo service marks the airline’s fourth route to Japan, complementing double daily flights from Sydney to Tokyo Haneda and daily services from Melbourne and Brisbane to Tokyo Narita.

Catch you on the slopes.
