Qantas introduce new dining service to Business class guests to offer them more time to sleep

Goodbye three-course meal, hello sleep.

When you get to the airport for a night flight, what’s the first thing you do? For us, it’s getting a bite to eat at a lounge or restaurant. Instead of waiting for an inflight meal, which if you encounter a flight delay could be hours away (hangry and waiting for a delayed flight, no thank you), it’s always a safer option to dine preflight.

The only negative in this scenario is that once you board your flight you’re ready for bed, but you then have to sit through the dinner service and if you’re flying Business class that usually means drinks, followed by an entree, main and dessert. At this point you’re either over indulging in a second dinner or patiently waiting for the service to end so you can finally get some shut eye.

Alas, Qantas might be able to offer a solution to this problem with the introduction of Room Service Supper in Business class. As of March 28 on the QF2 Singapore to Sydney service, the airline will allow guests to determine how they’d like to dine to ensure that they have plenty of time to rest.

You’re still able to have the same quantity of food, but instead of it being served as courses you can opt to have it served all on one tray, or not at all. This change to how the dinner service is conducted by crew will help to reduce the movement of crew and unavoidable noise that comes with the full service, which will be welcomed by those trying to sleep.

In efforts to help passengers catch some quality z’s while flying, the cabin lighting will also be dimmed earlier in the flight. While this sped up service is only being offered on the one route at this stage, if successful it could potentially expand to other overnight flights from Asia.

While falling asleep on a plane is never an easy task, we’ll take all the help we can get.
