Crack the bundy and coke: Queensland has reopened its borders (but there's a catch)

Noosa, sunshine coast

Beautiful one day, perfect the next.

Queensland has confirmed that the state border will reopen to travellers from New South Wales this November 3, but will remain closed to Greater Sydney and Victoria.

Those who reside in Victoria, as well as the 32 local government areas that make up Greater Sydney, will continue to be restricted from entering the state, despite mounting pressure for Queensland to open up.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Queensland election. Although the timing seems curious, Ms Palaszczuk has stated that she was awaiting advice from Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young, prior to confirming that the borders would reopen.

“I have always said that I will follow the health advice and this is Dr. Young’s advice,” the Premier said.

“Keeping Queensland safe is also keeping our economy open and I will not risk the safety of Queenslanders.”

It’s good news for those in regional New South Wales who have been longing for a bit Queensland sunshine after months in isolation, followed by weeks of not-quite-summer weather in the south-eastern states.

As for Sydney and Victoria, the waiting game continues.
