Getting your hands on a slice is no piece of cake.

Ok, hear us out. We know lining up for food when travelling is annoying. Some may say it’s a waste of time. Why would you spend hours queuing up for food when you could be taking in the sights. But when you see locals queuing up outside a place, you know you’re going to be rewarded for your efforts. And getting a taste of delicious foreign eats is just as much part of the ‘tourist’ experience as sightseeing in our books.

Cue (or queue, even): Queic by Olivia. An offshoot from Singapore’s Olivia Restaurant & Lounge, which plates up cuisine inspired by the flavours of Barcelona, Queic by Olivia is solely dedicated to the parent restaurant’s signature dessert: Olivia’s Cheesecake.

The handcrafted dessert was created over months by Celina Franco, the food director of Olivia Restaurant & Lounge and has a unique taste and texture that has made it a must-try dish in Singapore. It combines cream and blue cheese with a soft and crumbly almond sable crust base. Similar to a wheel of soft cheese and unlike that of a baked cheesecake, the centre of the cake is gooey – almost liquid – and the perfect balance of buttery crust and salty and sweet cake.

Now, the Olivia Cheesecake is not easy to secure. Queic by Olivia sells out of the cake everyday and usually two hours before closing time. The cake shop is situated in Chinatown and almost always has a queue snaking outside the store. Heads up, you may be waiting in the line for up to an hour, depending on the day.

While Olivia’s Cheesecake is the most popular item on the menu, there are other flavours worthy of a mention. The Truffle Brie Cheesecake and Brie Cheesecake are a must for cheese lovers, while the Basque Burnt Cheesecake is for cheesecake purists.

Where is Queic by Olivia?

You’ll find Queic by Olivia in Chinatown at 41 Kreta Ayer Rd, Singapore. It’s open from 11am – 7pm daily. For more information or to order online, visit queic.com
