It’s a ship, it’s a train, it’s…both?
While Icon of the Seas is the talk of the town and going viral across all social media platforms, what is next for the cruise company that has just launched the largest passenger vessel ever? Royal Caribbean has an answer for that.
Cue: immersive dining experiences. Royal Caribbean has just announced that on its upcoming ship, Utopia of the Seas, it will launch its first Royal Railway – Utopia Station dining concept, which brings two 24-seat dining cars onboard. The cars will be decorated and furnished with pieces from real railway cars, inspired by the grandness of the turn-of-the-century trains – think the Orient Express.

But this isn’t just about aesthetics. LED screens in the windows will take diners on a virtual trip while performers will bring a train-inspired story to life throughout the meal. There’ll be two themes for guests to experience aboard the Royal Railway – Utopia Station. The Wild West concept will rely heavily on actors dressed up in their best Western outfits to deliver a family-friendly experience, while the more visual Silk Road itinerary is more suited to couples seeking a romantic date night.
If Royal Caribbean finds that the first two journeys are successful, it can introduce more itineraries by simply tweaking the tech. Guests can easily be transported to the Napa Valley for wine tasting or the North Pole for some hot chocolate, which is perfect for days at sea when you want to be transported somewhere for a couple of hours.
Utopia of the Seas is scheduled to launch in July 2024. For more information or to book, visit royalcaribbean.com
