Southern Ocean Lodge makes its grand return to Kangaroo Island.
Kangaroo Island’s Southern Ocean Lodge has been one of the most anticipated hotel openings in Australia for 2023. After the iconic accommodation sadly burned down in the 2019 bushfires (along with half the island) and three years of rebuilding, Southern Ocean Lodge is finally open to check in.

The reimagined luxury property has been rebuilt to capture the feel and essence of the original property, but with some new touches to enhance the experience. The Great Room still remains as centre stage on the island’s limestone cliffs with 23 suites easing along the coastline.

These opulent guest suites have been reorientated to face southeast so that guests have uninterrupted views of the Southern Ocean and rolling coastal wilderness. Each of them have their own private decks, an EcoSmart fireplace and sink-in bath.

One of the most exciting additions is the ultra-premium Ocean Pavilion. A single four-bedroom owner’s residence or two separate two-bedroom suites to create the ultimate Kangaroo Island hideaway for families and friends travelling together.

The Great Room welcomes back its wet-edge pool and the new space allows for the South Spa to be home to three treatment rooms, a gymnasium, sauna and hot and cold plunge pools. Of course, the Great Room wouldn’t be complete without its synonymous suspended fireplace, which warmly returns.
Rates at Southern Ocean Lodge start at AU$3,400 per couple, per night. Fore more information or to book, visit southernoceanlodge.com.au
