Embrace the coastal grandmother vibes.

If you’re like us and can’t help falling for a cute coming-of-age love story, then you’re probably across the release of season two of Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty. The book-turned-tv-show is set in the fictional town of Cousins Beach. But the reality is it was filmed in an actual beachside town that is as idyllic as it is captured on the show.

Wilmington, North Carolina, is where many scenes throughout the series were shot. A few spots in the beach town were highlighted in season one, including Wrightsville Beach, Padgett Station and Russell’s Quik Stop. With the story returning to the summer beach house in season two we anticipate more of the town will be on display.

For those looking to capture the same American summer feel, Wilmington is the perfect spot for a mid-year getaway. Wrightsville Beach is popular for its strong surf, while the Riverwalk in the Historic District is lined with restaurants, galleries and shops.

While accommodations offerings are slim in the small town, there is no shortage of Airbnb’s on offer with stunning ocean views. While it has been proven that consuming TV shows can inspire where to travel for your next vacation – read our story on what is set-jetting, and how it’s changing where we travel – we don’t need any convincing.
